On Monday 16 March, clear blue skies and bright sunshine greeted the 2020protour at its inaugural event at Crosland Heath Golf Club, Huddersfield. Thanks to very poor weather conditions in February, the Tour’s first two events had to be rescheduled; hence Crosland Heath took on the mantle of the opening event. And what a great day it turned out to be! Many thanks go to the Heath greens staff for their exceptional work in offering a course that after recent weather was in superb condition!
Sponsored by The Body Doctor, ‘The Eye Doctor Classic’ produced some excellent golf. Nicholas Poppleton, from Wath Golf Club, carded a high-quality 64 (-7), which included 8 birdies (a cracking start to the McClarron Race to 100 Birdies!) and took away a first prize of £1,200.
Prior to play, players took advantage of the complimentary physiotherapy sessions, offered by the Tour’s Physio Craig Coulson. For most of the Tour’s events, players will have the chance to book a 15-minute warm-up/support session with Craig, or at some locations with Michael Murray.
ContentLiveGolf were in attendance for the whole event, live streaming over a number of media platforms – analytics have shown that there were over 18,000 views, which gave lots of golf fans a chance to hear the players, see the action, and get a look at what happens behind the scenes.
Many thanks to Crosland Heath Golf Club for hosting a successful inaugural event!
Hard on the heels of the inaugural event came the ‘ThinOptics Masters’, played at Fixby Hall, the home of The Huddersfield Golf Club.
Again, the day produced some great scoring; home favourite Nick Marsh shot 64 (-6) in the feature group with European Tour player Marcus Armitage (-5), and Richard Mansell (-5), with another -5 coming from Nick McCarthy.
A bonus of £300 was on offer for the player with the lowest two-round total – Nicholas Poppleton’s -3 clinched the bonus prize and extended his birdie tally to 13.
Many thanks to The Huddersfield Golf Club for hosting the event.
